Acute Care for the Elderly Unit
Offers a special medical care unit for frail elderly patients managing complex acute medical concerns and are at risk of losing the ability to function independently. Specially trained geriatric care team works to maintain or improve mobility issues with the aim to return the older patient to independent living at home. Typical hospital stay is less than fourteen days; elderly patients may be admitted for treatment of dehydration, falls, pain, confusion, drug-related illness, delirium and/or dementia.

May be referred by an attending physician or as an inpatient from another department within the hospital.

Adults aged 75 and over who are acutely ill, have a number of medical problems at one time and are at risk of losing the ability to function independently.
