Kamloops Aboriginal Friendship Society

Provides one-to-one counselling for individuals who are seeking support and information for recovery from an alcohol or drug addiction. Referral to treatment centres, in-house referrals, and prevention workshops are also provided.

Provides an opportunity for individuals, children, and families to learn recipes and cooking techniques on a budget; educates on skills related to meal planning, grocery shopping, cooking, and preserving nutritious local food.

Offers a range of services and activities to promote the healthy development of young children and their families. Services include individual and family support, referrals and advocacy, early childhood development information and education, nutritional guidance, pre-post natal information, family cultural activities and teachings, home visits, and a variety of social groups.

Provides immediate crisis counselling, assessment, and referral for families that are in need of support. Offers family court advocacy, family support, mentorship, counselling, and drop-in. Longer-term courses in anger management and parenting are also offered.

Offers a safe and supportive playgroup to improve the health and social development of parents and their young children. Provides an opportunity for parents to socialize and share parenting experiences while the children enjoy playtime, peer interactions and socialization, snacks, story time and crafts.

A family support worker provides resources and information regarding healthy child development, parenting, support and community services, nutrition, and coping skills.

Provides in-home support and counselling for families and their children to enhance parenting and behaviour management skills, increase healthy births, and support child development.

Offers a prenatal support group to improve the health and well-being of pregnant women. Topics may include nutrition and healthy lifestyle, hospital tours, labour and delivery information, baby care and breastfeeding support, community referrals, and after care for mother and family. Access to nutritionists, doulas services, prenatal vitamins, and grocery vouchers are also available.
