Seabird Island Band

Administers and coordinates medical travel to eligible First Nations clients on behalf of the First Nations Health Authority (FNHA) Health Benefits Program. Arrangement is also available for a driver to take members to appointments if there is no one in the family who can provide transportation.

The program provides funding for transportation to the closest appropriate medical professional and or facility for medical or health related services that are eligible through the BC Medical Service Plan or covered by FNHA.

Provides pharmacy services for individuals to obtain, understand and manage their prescriptions. Hours of operation may be subject to change; call ahead to confirm.

Also provides naloxone kits to people who use opioids or are likely to witness an overdose. Pharmacists provide kits free-of-charge to people who are eligible, as well as training in overdose recognition and response.

Provides primary health care services and chronic illness care to the First Nations community. Doctors have knowledge of cultural challenges and provide individualized care and treatment. Referral for eligible patients to on-site counsellors, psychiatrist, and or nutrition counselling is also available.

Provides culturally sensitive speech and language screening, assessment and therapy to young children who may be experiencing a speech and or language delay or difficulty. The program also helps Aboriginal children learn the tools of effective communication through meaningful activities and interaction with others.

Offers community health services from visiting specialists and health professionals. Services include optometry eye examinations and specialist referrals, mobile mammogram visits, and diabetes outreach including vision and blood screening.
